Back in the summer, Zen moved from its Scarborough location to Markham. Since I live closer to the old location, I’ve always wondered what became of it! Today, I went back to find out.
Lots of great places to eat in Baldwin Village. Today, I’ll be writing about the adequately delightful Etsu.
Recently, I’ve been spending a lot of time working on a very important article for me. Japanese food has always been my favourite, and while this list that I’ve written for Toronto.com is by no means exhaustive, I do think it has some of the best Japanese cuisine you can find in the city. My parents used to take me to J-Town to reward me for good behaviour. I always loved this place — not too large, but it felt a little bit like a culinary playground with its amazing bakery, curry, meat shop, sushi stand, and mini-fish market. I used to walk by this place, thinking it was just another run of the mill school sponsored cafe with cruddy overpriced food. Sometimes you go to places for great food. Other times, you go to places because they’re cheap. Sometimes, you do so for both reasons. And sometimes you go just because it’s just a friendly, welcoming place. iBento is not incredible sushi by any means, but it is cheaper than any of those ‘Bento Noveau’ spots that you might find lurking around University campus. Better tasting, too, with much, much friendlier service.
So, I don’t really post much anymore, but I felt the need to spread the word about a nice new place that I recently discovered. Enjoy.
I’ve always wanted to try this place. So one day, I decided to trek out before class and buy takeout. It started raining along the way, but I got my food and I was pleased.
