No shot of the entrance because it was a really bad shot, but I recently checked out Sagano, a roof-top Japanese restaurant located at Delta Scarborough.

Hours of Operation: Monday: Closed, Tuesday to Saturday: 5:30pm to 9:30pm, Sunday: 5:00pm to 9:00pm
Pro-tip: They do reservations online on Open Table, and their Sunday Night Family Special Menu is well-priced.
The atmosphere going up to this place for the first time was pretty fun. Roof-top restaurants always are and you get an interesting view of the highway. The space is nice and dreamy, an alcove or perch of respite from everything else. When we went, we decided to all go with the ‘Izakaya’ option from the Sunday Family menu. It comes with tempura, agedashi tofu, yam fritters, skewers of chicken and beef, a large chirashi, and dessert.
This was actually pretty delicious. The tofu were little packets of fluffy pillows, and the yam fritters had that crispy exterior with a buttery, slightly sweet interior.
Next came the tempura, complete with little mounds of radish to add to the dipping sauce. The dipping sauce was a little too salty and not sweet enough, but the tempura was well-made with not too much batter.
The highlight of this was the nicely balanced sauce and the extremely tender, juicy chicken.
Considering the places I’ve been to I must admit I was expecting more from their sushi. It was fresh and it wasn’t bad, but I expect more from a rooftop Japanese restaurant in a hotel. Maybe it’s my sushi elitism talking? 🙂
Black sesame ice cream is one of the most delicious ice creams you can usually find at Japanese restaurants with a subtle sesame flavour, a rich creaminess, and a sublime, just-enough sweetness.
TL;DR: This is a good place to go on Sundays for special occasions. Their cooked items seem better than their raw ones. I didn’t even see an a la carte sushi menu.
